The Glitzy-Disco, All-Terrain, Summer Must-Have Sandals.

Just take a look at these little disco babies, glittering away in the sun! I bought them at the weekend from Topshop - they're called the "Newlywed Mid Sandal" - and I haven't been so instantly pleased with a shoe purchase since I snapped up my Jennie heels from LK Bennett last year.

The Newlyweds look quite delicate and chic from the front and top - that gorgeous, almost-retro t-bar and dainty cutaway work - but they have the chunkiest, most brilliantly sturdy heel. I wore them to a wedding and - considering I'm lumbering about with something like a stone and a half of extra weight (actually have no idea how much as I haven't weighed myself since November, but that's another story!) - my feet and ankles did not complain once. Neither did I sink into the lawn, like all of the other ladies, when it came to taking the obligatory group wedding photos. I have to say that I felt incredibly pleased with myself.

So if you're looking for a pair of mid-heel sandals that are both glitzy and practical to see you through the summer, then snap these up. They're not just a kind of "booby prize" for the heavily pregnant and those who can't deal with high-high shoes; the blocky shape of the heel is actually very on-trend, what with this seventies vibe going on, and they'd look great with denim, with little shorts, with tiny summer dresses or long, flowing maxis. As holiday shoes they reign supreme: they're kind of like a glitzy, all-terrain problem-solver that will see you leaping through the sand-dunes and negotiating outdoor decking when everyone else is tottering along two miles behind you...

The Newlywed Mid Sandals are £42 from Topshop.com
