The Candle Video – Start Feeling Festive!

christmas candle gift guide

Yes, the annual candle video is here again. Flame-flickering, wick-smouldering, wax-dripping pornography for those who want their home fragrances hot. (WHERE THE HELL DID THAT JUST COME FROM? You can tell it’s nearly the end of the year, can’t you?)

I love making the candle videos. They’re more of a visual indulgence than a gift guide, really, but I should point out that they do make unbelievably safe gifts! There aren’t many who would turn their nose up at a beautiful candle. Not just a safe gift, either – that makes it sound boring – a good candle will have a beautiful blend of oils in it and will fragrance a whole house with amazing scent. I often think that it’s the day after you’ve burnt a candle that you really reap the benefits – walking back into your home and being pleasantly surprised by a new and delicious smell. Candles are excellent gifts for just about anyone, come to think of it, from people you might not know that well (new boss, distant in-laws) to your nearest and dearest.

I just have to give a special mention to the two candles in the picture above; pure and absolute decadence. Actually, there are three, but you can’t see the Annick Goutal one that well. The Annick Goutal Noel candle is obscenely Christmassy – if you were in Norway and went out into the woods in the dark to chop your own Christmas tree, this is what the air would smell like. Probably. The large red one is Diptyque – it’s a hefty one-and-a-half kilos of Tuberose-scented candle and it burns for up to 150 hours. I always thought that these were for outdoors only, but it seems not – though probably best not to leave unattended in a massive pile of fake snow. Ahem.

The lady’s face peeking into the picture is a Fornasetti candle. I have mentioned my love of Fornasetti time and time again – the pieces are about more than just fragrancing, there’s a real design element going on and the candles and incense burners can easily become the focal point in a small room. Links to the Fornasetti range – and indeed all the candles shown – are at the bottom of this page.

Right, here goes – grab a mince pie and a cup of tea and get comfy! The obligatory Christmas tune and candle close-ups are at the end of the video. If you can’t be bothered to listen to me chuntering on, skip to 4:55 – I guarantee that you’ll be feeling festive after a bit of Christmas music and my little message at the end! If you can’t see the video pane, which seems to be happening a LOT recently, then please click here to open it in a new window!
