What’s In My Makeup Bag? Autumn 2018

in my makeup bag autumn 2018

Here are the contents of my makeup bag, accurate to two weeks ago today. In all honesty, I’m not a huge fan of the Camo Luxe palette and so that has since been swapped out (for Tilbury’s Vintage Vamp, if you must know, which is one of the greatest eye quads of all time) and the Sheer Sun liquid from Bare Minerals has also been demoted, mainly because I’ve been travelling loads and it’s not the most portable of makeup products.

But the gist of this video is clear; a move towards really creamy textures and fresh, sheeny finishes. I think that the trick with creams and liquids, when it comes to makeup, is to make sure that they are balanced out with at least a little bit of powder product so that they don’t slide about too much. Or layer them over a longwear base, one that still looks dewy (foundations are clever these days, lots manage it) so that they can cling to something substantial.

Here I’ve started off with the Infallible Pro Glow foundation from L’Oreal which is, I think, my favourite foundation of the year. Doesn’t shift over the course of the day yet manages to look glowing and plumptious, feels expensive yet is very definitely not. I’ve had loads of questions about how the Pro Glow shades work – it’s exclusive to Amazon here in the UK, so it’s not possible to swatch before buying: if I wear shade 203 then it is slightly too pale for me, a shade 204 is ever so slightly too dark. I tend to mix them if I can be bothered, but now it’s getting into winter I more often just wear 203. My usual shade level in Dior and Chanel foundations is a 20.

I’ll try and do some swatches when I get a minute – I’m currently fighting every single bug that’s going around the local pre-school, which seems to be my new hobby. For now, enjoy the video and leave any questions below!

  2. Completely agree – while I love the look of liquids and creams, which is often a bit more subtle, powder is just so much simpler! I keep buying creams, and keep picking up my powders to use in the morning…

  4. Blush looks stunning on you – I also put a touch on my nose and though the eyelids for a real complexion pick-me-up. Love your whole look! Gx

  5. I bought the Vintage Vamp quad three weeks ago and I am addicted! It blends so easily its idiot proof. Cult Beauty sent me a Becca Undereye Brightener and it’s freaking awesome with the Vamp quad. It definitely hides all my symptoms of being a 38 year old working Mum!!!

  7. Hi Ruth, after your glowing reviews of L’Oreal pro glow I went ahead and ordered it! The first time I tried I loved it; great texture and finish. The second time I really didn’t like it and could smell the alcohol in the ingredients and I checked the inci and alcohol denat is third on the list! My skin and alcohol don’t get on v well which explains it. Such a shame as the texture and finish are really lovely…just not for me sadly . Lisa xx

    • Yes, I actually thought it was a much smaller amount as my packaging has it RIGHT at the end of the inci list for some reason! What a shame xx

  9. Hi Ruth, can you tell me why I can’t follow you on Instagram? Every time I try doing so I get sort of a ‘not possible’ message! I have been following you for ages (before Angelica even) on all the other social media things, but Instagram says no.
    Help!

    • Really?! How weird!! Can you tell me the exact message when you try? x

  10. Does the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation match other shades in the Infallible range? I need a new foundation but my shade seems to change every time!

  11. I love L’Oreal’s pro glow – so lightweight, blendable and long lasting with decent coverage. Never cakes up either – just wonderful!
